The Bujumbura International Montessori School (BIMS) is a private educational centre dedicated to providing quality education for children of all nationalities residing in Bujumbura. It was founded by an Australian, Mr. Terrance Tanzer in 2006. It started very modestly with 62 pre-school children enrolled in Bujumbura International Montessori Kindergarten. Mr. Tanzer spent his entire career in education working in many different countries as a teacher and/or education adviser for various UN and NGO institutions. Today BIMS is celebrating its 13th Anniversary and consists of the Crèche, Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary school sections with more than six hundred children.
